Third Culture Coffee Roasters was founded as a 2-week class, part of Concordia International School Shanghai’s exploration program, to better understand the growing realm of social entrepreneurship. Yet over the past years, this project has blossomed into a full time, student-led and -operated social enterprise, devoted to the mission of roasting and distributing the best coffee in Shanghai. However, the process is what distinguishes us, as we aim to better the lives of rural coffee farmers in Yunnan province through forging mutually beneficial relationships by way of direct trade.
Geographically, Yunnan is the perfect region to produce coffee. Located right along the northern edge of the Global Coffee Belt, an area that determines the prime climate for optimal growth, Yunnan’s fertility and temperature rivals some of the world’s top producers and competitors such as Columbia, Vietnam, and Mexico.
